About the Artist

Anneke Jooste is a Cape Town-based artist whose work comes straight from real life. Love, joy, heartbreak, and everything in between.

Before picking up a paintbrush, Anneke spent years as a tattoo artist. That background taught her to work with confidence on surfaces that don't forgive hesitation, and it still comes through in her painting. Bold marks, strong contrast, and a willingness to commit to every stroke.

She works primarily in acrylics and mixed media, building up layers of colour and texture until each piece has a physical presence you can feel. Her subjects range from expressive portraits to the landscapes around her: Table Mountain at sunset, light on the winelands, the raw energy of the coastline. Some pieces lean into pop and comic-inspired aesthetics, while others explore sculptural texture through 3D impasto techniques.

Every piece is an original. Anneke works from her studio in Brackenfell, where she also runs As Above So Below, the tattoo studio she founded.

Truthfully, she'd keep every one of them. But she trusts that the right artwork will find its way to the right person.
